Tucson Mountains GPS

6/13/03 – Went out with an equestrian to GPS a local trail in the Tucson mountains. The trail was spectacular (for a local, outskirts trail) and seems to lead right into Saguaro National Park, or possibly a small part of TMP. I got it on GPS and have it available for Steve A.

It was nice to actually meet (and go out on the trail with) someone who rides horses. Our guide and his 9 year old daughter saddled up and gave us the grand tour. It was a real treat to meet someone well grounded. We talked about all his animals and such and just life in general. If I were not so committed to bike commuting I’d probably live out by him on the west side. You just can’t access anything (groceries, school, services) without either riding for an hour or driving. But, oh, if I could…

We watched the moon rise and the valley was crystal clear (for Tucson). Views of all the major ranges are everywhere along this trail. I even spotted a few bike tires on it.
