Healing

Healing is well under way. I probably needed the rest anyway.

While I’m sitting here, under a self-imposed no riding order, thoughts are swirling about the 24 hour race in Feb. If my knee turns out ok (and it looks that way), I could make an attempt.

The thought of riding around in circles for 24 hours isn’t that appealing to me. The course is not that appealing either. Neither is being surrounded, passing, and being passed by hundreds of mountain bikers.

But, the question remains, can I keep riding for 24 hours?

I ate breakfast with Chris and Dejay, Chris in town for the Tucson Marathon. We had a nice chat, and I predict a few rides with Dejay, knee willing.

Speaking of the Tucson Marathon, why is there no money for the winners? I heard a rumor that the claim is the following: if they offered money for winners they would lose participants. For every 1 elite racer they attract they would lose 100 “regular” participants.

I don’t buy it. But I wouldn’t pretend to tell someone else how to run their own race. If the organizers don’t want to support local racers or attract better competition, for whatever reason, that’s fine.

At least they leave the streets clean.
