Hey, we have been doing the bike shuttle thing here for five summers. And we are right in McKenzie Bridge. We started it and ohters have followed. Not to worry, we will still be here meeting people from all over the planet! ride hard, fast, finish!

Hey Scott,
I ran across your story while looking for epics in Oregon in the spring.
Great write up. I felt like I was right with you the entire route, without the leg pains.
I'm putting a good portion of this ride on my 2010 list along with finishing your Coco loop.

Pretty awesome place to visit, even better place to live. Some area tips:
Check out cougar hot springs near cougar dam. Hot springs flows through 5 cascading pools. Nice place to relax away a days ride. $5 day use fee - clothing optional.

There is now a local shuttle for the McKenzie River Trail at McKenzie River Mountain Resort - a couple miles west of the end of Aufderheide (turn left when Hwy 19 ends at Hwy 126 meet). They are very cyclist friendly - in addition to the shuttle they also offer bike rentals and have some nice lodging options - vacation cabins with kitchens and clean lodge rooms starting at an affordable $49.95 a night.

Aside from the the 'must do' McKenzie River Trail and Aufderheide Scenic Byway a third favorite choice is Castle Rock Trail (7 miles from top to bottom - 14 miles round trip).
