Turkey Trot 08

Rain made things interesting in this year’s Turkey Trot. The wash is usually dry and I can cruise through it several times, following the race by bike. This year I had to take the bridge.

Mud, slippery hills, hay bales, water traps.

Last year Paula beat her own course record and took her 4th consecutive win. But this year, somebody finally beat her. They ran elbow to elbow for the first lap, then Paula fell behind by 30 feet or so. She surged to regain the lead just before the last hill, but on the finish straightaway didn’t have the raw speed (the girl who beat her has supposedly run a 4:40 mile), losing by a few feet.

I heard several people in the crowd saying, “that was AWESOME!” I’d have to agree — one of the best (few?) good footraces I have seen in Tucson. Usually it’s a foregone conclusion…

As usual, she was psyched just to have the competition, not fazed at all by “losing.”

Happy turkey day. I know I have much to by thankful for — this year more than ever.

Looking forward to a few long rides with the 2 Epic crew this weekend.

    Ryan:

Hi. Long story short… my parents moved to S. Arizona and the family is visiting for Thanksgiving. The kids (we’re all grown) will be running in the 2009 Tuscon Turkey Trot. Sibling bragging rights for the next year are at stake!

    A couple of questions:
Are the photos from this post from that event?
Is there a Web site for it? I haven’t been able to find using Google.

    Thanks!
