A Samaniego Epic – video

Chad and I went for a little bike ride. If you’ve been following along the diary, this was my third “run” on the Samaniego Ridge Trail. The first two focused on trail work and were both shuttle aided. For this one we rode from home, up the mountain, then the real adventure began — working our way back down.

As this ride is a variation on a theme (the Red Ridge Epic that Chad and I have done the past few years), the music is still Pink Floyd’s Fearless, but performed by Fish.

Photos and video by both Chad and myself. I did the editing as well, once I was done wrestling with software crashes, drivers, quicktime and two different editing programs. The only guarantee when working with computers is: frustration. Actually, it is amazing that I don’t fight with computers like this more regularly. I must be lucky.

It took us just over 14 hours, including time spent at Bobo’s at 0530 and Rubio’s on the way back. 12:16 moving time, which is almost two hours more than our last Red Ridge Epic — it’s just that much harder with Samaniego in the mix. Only 80ish miles, and 11,500′ climbing, but those stats are deceiving, as stats often can be.

A lot of things have to come together for a ride like this to go so well — weather, trail conditions, motivation, time of year, friendship, bikes, training, health, and on and on.

Lucky, yep.
