Day 7 – Too big a day

The sunset on Mangas mountain made it all worth it.

The CDT has quite the personality in New Mexico.  We pushed bikes. We navigated moonscape burn areas. We lost the trail. There was no trail.  We stopped at the top of a 2000 foot descent with little hope for trail, let alone a clear one.

But today was one of the best days of riding in recent memory. Despite lots of hardships,  the rewards were huge. Little nuggets of prime 1 track descending.  A huge bench cut drop off Wagon tongue mountain.  A perfectly timed windmill chugging out nice water for drink and bath. A pleasant climb to the foothills of Mangas Mountain. And the best sunset of the trip to descend by.

Living… by bike.  But definitely living.

We have maybe 500 calories between us and 22 miles to Pie Town. It ain’t pretty, but we’ll make it.

We’ve pushing a bit too hard, time for a Nero day! (Near zero day)
