Hi Teo,

Right now TF can't load .kmz custom map files, though it can produce them!  kmz files with regular kml (vector) data can be opened, but not image/map data.

It's on the todo list, for sure.

I answered your Google/Bing question on the other thread (and by email).  ;)

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Teo,

There's no way to load google maps in the public version of TopoFusion Pro.  It does load maps in the google 'style' (several other tilesets in TopoFusion use google's pattern and access method), though.  Drop me a note about it.  ;)

There's no way to directly load those PDF files.  However, have you tried the MyTopo layer in TF?  It contains many of the forest service updates, such as road and trail numbers.  They are pretty high quality maps.

« on: May 08, 2013, 04:50:50 PM »
Hey guys,

Thanks for the posts.  I would say it really depends on the map server.  Some are not very well suited for batch downloads, some are.  I think a few of the main ones have some 'throttling' code in place, meaning they let you download fast for a short while, and then severely limit it.  That's to prevent people from hogging the server load and/or making large copies of the data.

I would try the older style topos (from MSRmaps.com) and possibly after hours as Blender suggests.  I haven't seen any throttling with MSRMaps.  For aerials, I would go with Open Aerial.  That server is pretty reliable and quite fast.

Hmm, after writing that I just realized that batch downloads are not active for several of the newer servers.  For MyTopo it is intentional -- our agreement with the kind folks there prohibits it.  Same goes with Open Street, but I will have to check with the Open Aerial server.

The Color server and also US Topo is where I've seen the throttling.  But I have seen good results with the basic Topo sets.

Let us know how it goes guys.  I will plan to do some testing myself and see about adding a few of the other servers to batch download.

Roger,

Have you tried using the menu option under the 'Map' menu?  There's a menu option that should check off and on.

Very strange otherwise.  The button does nothing?

I'm finding that MSRMaps is very in/out lately.  When it works it's fast, but when it doesn't, it's nothing.  In the are you're looking right now, I'm not getting a response.

I'd recommend MyTopo.  Tiles load a little slower, but the server is nearly always up.

For aerials, go with Open Aerial -- very fast and reliable.

Thanks for the post/report!

Hey,

You may want to try the new beta (v4.76).  I fixed a few things with map downloads.  Also the memory cache size has been removed -- it was a 64bit bug hangover -- not causing any issues.

Let me know if 4.76 works better for you or not.

Thanks.

TopoFusion Basic / Re: Multiple Tracks
« on: April 16, 2013, 05:14:27 PM »
Kudzu,

If you want to change the color of all tracks in a file, you can use the File Properties dialog.  If you just want to do one track, use Track Properties.  Maybe you have some overlapping sections?

In TF you can have multiple tracks as well.  But in the file list below, the stats are for all tracks.

The scissors tool will snip one track into two, leaving them still in one file.  Try it out.

« on: April 12, 2013, 03:57:14 PM »
Hi Kudzu,

Sorry about taking so long to reply here.  It slipped through the cracks somehow.

You probably already figured this out, but TF supports per track attributes like you describe.  Saved into GPX format just as ExpertGPS does it (the extensions were defined by ExpertGPS's creator).  To get the track attribute dialog right click on a single track in the map window and choose "Track Properties."  Color, width, alpha and pattern type are all there.

Thanks for the question!

TopoFusion Pro / Re: Printing maps with UTM grid
« on: April 12, 2013, 03:40:46 PM »
Hi,

Sorry about the delayed response.

Due to the projection of many of the map types, the UTM grid boxes will not be square.  That's what you're seeing.  We'd have to distort the maps into UTM projection in order for them to be square.

If you use the old style Topo maps, the grid boxes will be square and your tool should work.

Hope that helps some.

Hi,

Sometimes there are hiccups in the various servers, but the 0/0mb cache number is a little troubling.

You might try changing the directory of your map cache if you continue to have issues.

Hi there,

Sounds like what you need to do is download the 300 GPX file from here:

http://www.topofusion.com/azt/race-route.php

Open that (or drag/drop into TF), and you'll have the course, then can download any number of types of maps around it.

Hope that helps.  Feel free to ask further questions!

This bug was fixed in 4.67 - please check your version and update to the latest.  Let me know what you're on.  It's possible I need to still fix the same error for the "save as..." dialog if you are on 4.67 or later.

TopoFusion Pro / Re: Mexico Map Download Error
« on: January 28, 2013, 04:53:12 PM »
Hi,

Sounds like you have an older version of the Mexico WMS access string.

Here's one that works:

/cgi-bin/map4/mapserv_orto?LAYERS=Mexorto&MAP=%2Fwebd%2Fmap%2Fweb%2Forto_wms.map&SERVICE=WMS&SRS=EPSG:4326&VERSION=1.1.1&FORMAT=image/jpeg

Likely you'll just need to change the end from gif to jpeg.  The rest, I am pretty sure, should be the same from your older version of TF.

Let me know if that doesn't fix it for you.

Mark,

Did you download the current version?  The link in the TopoFusion start menu will do the same thing to reset your TF settings to default.  It saves the step of trying to find the .INI file.

Sounds like I need to take a close look at this.

TopoFusion Basic / Re: New User - Old Problem?
« on: January 28, 2013, 03:29:39 PM »
Chris -- I'd recommend using TF's custom map feature for that.  Load up all your tracks, use "File->Export View" to create a .KMZ file, using whichever background you want.  Garmin's handling of multiple tracks in a file is sub-par.  There really aren't any good solutions for that problem.

Hope that helps.

TopoFusion Pro / Re: Merge Tracks
« on: January 22, 2013, 07:24:29 PM »
Hi there,

I'm not sure why tracks that you are clicking on with the join tracks tool would not be selecting.  If you change to the hand/pan mode and right click on the tracks do they highlight?  That should be using the same code and rules to select them.  One thing is you need to stay in the join tool mode in order to be able to save out or clear your merging.  If you switch to another tool mode it can be a little confusing -- the in process merged track will stay highlighted, but then you can't do anything to it without going back to the join tool.

Hope that helps.  If you're still having problems even selecting tracks, please post again and perhaps email me the file(s) you are trying to look at.  I'll take a look.

Hi,

Thanks for the note.  Unfortunately, no, not yet.  TF doesn't do anything special with course points on the 800.  I still have a little bit more work to do to fully support the 800.  I really like mine and use it a lot, so it should happen.

Thanks again for writing in.

TopoFusion Basic / Re: Track randomly loses segments
« on: January 05, 2013, 01:48:51 PM »
Hi there,

Sounds like a case of different expectations.  No doubt, no user interface is going to mesh well with everyone.  There are a few idiosyncrasies to the TF interface, usually with good reason, but sometimes not.

Not being able to draw a track and add it to an existing file (only a new one) is a limitation that we can address.

You can add waypoints to an existing file easily, so drawing a track first, then adding waypoints is one option.

Join tracks is meant to create a single track from multiple, and it will try to connect them in the 'smartest' way.  But if you aren't sure which way tracks are going, it can be confusing and you can get straight lines connecting stuff.

If you simply want to combine tracks (keeping them separate) into a new file, select the files you want (CTRL-click or Shift-click) in the active file list, right click there and choose "Merge and save as...".

Hope that makes sense.  Give it a little time and hopefully you'll get it.

Don't hesitate to ask questions if you've got them, too.

TopoFusion Anouncements / v4.7 - temperature, .FIT, info mode
« on: November 01, 2012, 02:01:56 PM »

TopoFusion displaying temperature data for a long ride

We're happy to release TopoFusion 4.7!  This version offers some significant improvements to the software in usability, some needed fixes and cool new stuff too.  New is support for Garmin's Tempe sensor, an inexpensive temperature sensor that can be paired with many Garmin GPS units.  With that support comes temperature profiles (see above screenshot) and temperature-based track shading.  In the new support department we also have new Edge 800/500 and Fenix support, in the form of .FIT file reading.  Plug your Edge 800 up and you can pull up any file from your history in TopoFusion!

We've also got a new mouse tool mode -- the info mode, which gives you track and waypoint data simply by moving the mouse near points in the map.  This is a user requested and highly useful form of additional track/trip analysis.  Thanks for the suggestion!

TopoFusion's "Export View" function is a very powerful way to output high resolution maps, with any of TF's map sets and user track/waypoint data as well.  But one issue was that tracks and waypoint text were pretty tiny when exports are at 8000x8000 pixels.  Now there's a handy checkbox that adds automatic scaling of line width and font size.

Update your TF and check it out (full list of changes below), or if you are new to TopoFusion, please try the demo.  And as always, let us know what you think, especially if you have a suggestion for a new feature or different way the software should work.

Thanks

Team TopoFusion

Strange.  Wonder if Windows7 is running it in compatibility mode or something else goofy is going on.  I can't explain why it works for both of my W7 computers as well as countless other users..

However, it seems like there should be a way to override the font setting and prevent it from scaling.  That might be one way to fix it.  I'll give it a shot.

TopoFusion Pro / Re: Font Size problem
« on: October 26, 2012, 11:25:07 AM »
Thanks for the post.  This is one of those strange/frustrating ones that I have never been able to reproduce.  I just tried switching between 100% and 125% (forces a logout or I would have done it sooner).  In both settings everything in TF looks fine to me.  I think you have the labeling wrong above -- it works in 100% but not in 125%, right?  Looks like the bigger font version has the errors.

Your font looks like the right one, so it's probably not that.  Anything else peculiar about your display, video, accessibility or font settings?

47
TopoFusion Pro / Re: Open Aerial not working in 3D mode?
« on: October 25, 2012, 02:10:57 PM »
Hi,

Couple things.  One is that in 3d mode the resolution of the texture (map) on the model increases, so you may see download tiles if the higher resolution tiles for your current tileset have not yet been downloaded yet.  Check this by zooming in, in 2d mode.  See if the tiles download, or are there.

I'm seeing fast download from open aerial (in my area, anyway - where are you looking?).  Good downloads from color, and B/W seems to be down or not responding at the moment.

Hope that helps some....

TopoFusion Pro / Re: area
« on: October 24, 2012, 12:06:16 PM »
Let's see, I think you need to click *on the track* itself, not within it.  Try right clicking on the line that you drew.

49
TopoFusion Pro / Re: area
« on: October 23, 2012, 10:32:47 PM »
You need to first draw a track around the area you wish to measure.  Do that using the draw / pencil tool.  The only trick here is that you need to right click somewhere (anywhere) on the map when you are done drawing, then you'll get a dialog that let's you choose "save as...".  Save the file out, then switch back to the regular hand/pan tool mouse mode.  You should now be able to right click anywhere on your new track and get a dialog that lets you choose "compute area."

Hope that helps!
